This is My Story, This is My Song

In 2016, our family’s world shifted forever. After the loss of my son Peyton, God began stirring a new calling in my heart. In the midst of deep grief, He drew my attention back to what mattered most—faith, family, and the blessing of walking closely with children through everyday life.

After a fellow mom, Kristin Horlings, came to me about the idea to start something like Anchor, my husband and I began praying for a path forward where we could root our family and open our doors in service to others.

Here, children are not defined by a classroom setting, but are nurtured as individuals—learning to love God, love others, and grow through hands-on experiences of life and service. Families share meals, serve side by side, and create spaces where faith is lived out in meaningful, everyday ways. Families gather in a home environment, where educational support and guided activities primarily take place indoors, while outdoor spaces are used for recreation, exploration, and community time.

Homeschooling has long been part of my journey. I, Mikki, have walked this road for more than 25 years, and alongside other parents and facilitators, we bring decades of shared experience. Together, we support one another in the responsibility of raising and educating our children, pointing them toward Christ’s love in both word and action.

Anchor operates as a collaborative learning pod microschool—where parents remain the primary educators, and families voluntarily come together to support and enrich one another’s homeschooling journeys. This shared model allows for flexibility, community, and a deeply personal approach to learning and discipleship.

Anchor is not an institution; it is a testimony. A testimony of God’s ability to bring beauty from ashes, to turn an open home into a place of refuge, and to weave together families who encourage one another in faith, service, and joy.
